Address: Habo kyrkby, 566 91 Habo

Habo is home to what is perhaps Sweden’s most distinctive wooden church. It gained its current form in 1723 and is decorated throughout with magnificent paintings and carved fittings. The guided tour is a real experience.

Gallery running right around the interior. The paintings, which cover the walls and the ceiling, feature motifs from Luther’s Small Catechism – a summary of Christian doctrine. A ‘roadside church’ open to the public in summer, serving coffee and selling fair-trade products.

‘Roadside church’ 25 June to 10 August 2014. Café in the Parish Room open 11-18 daily, with waffles served on Saturdays. See website for more info.
